Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Lalibela & Northern Churches Exploration
Take a morning flight to the legendary town of Lalibela, often referred to as the “New Jerusalem” of Ethiopia. After checking into your hotel, begin exploring the Northern Group of rock-hewn churches, including the impressive Bete Medhane Alem, believed to be the largest monolithic church in the world. Continue to Bete Maryam, one of Lalibela’s oldest and most beautifully decorated churches, traditionally associated with King Lalibela himself. Spend the afternoon discovering the remarkable architecture, tunnels, and spiritual heritage of these sacred monuments.
Day 2: Asheton Mariam Monastery & Southern Churches
In the morning, enjoy a scenic hike or mule ride to the mountaintop monastery of Asheton Mariam, dating back to the 13th century and offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. After lunch, continue your exploration with visits to the iconic cross-shaped Bete Giyorgis (Church of Saint George), widely regarded as the masterpiece of Lalibela. You will also discover the Eastern Group of churches, known for their royal chapels, intricate carvings, and historic significance before your evening flight back to Addis Ababa.
