Tour Overview
Embark on an epic 10-day trekking adventure through the spectacular Simien Mountains National Park to Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest mountain peak. This extended expedition takes you across dramatic escarpments, Afro-alpine plateaus, remote villages, river valleys, and breathtaking viewpoints while offering exceptional opportunities to see endemic wildlife and experience authentic mountain culture.
Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Trek from Sankaber to Gich
Trek through Erica heather forests and moss-covered landscapes while enjoying views of the surrounding escarpments. Visit the spectacular Jinbar Waterfall before ascending to the traditional mountain village of Gich.
Day 2: Imet Gogo & Saha Gorge Scenic Circuit
Visit some of the most spectacular viewpoints in Simien Mountains National Park, including Imet Gogo, Saha, and Kedadit. Enjoy dramatic canyon views and opportunities to spot endemic wildlife such as the Ethiopian Wolf.
Day 3: Gich to Chennek via Inatye Peak
Cross beautiful Afro-alpine meadows and climb to the summit of Inatye Peak (4,070m), an excellent location for panoramic views and birdwatching. Continue to Chennek camp, known for sightings of Walia Ibex along the cliffs.
Day 4: Chennek to Ambiko Base Camp
Ascend to the Buwahit Pass before descending into the Menesha River Valley and passing traditional villages on the route to Ambiko, the base camp for the Ras Dashen summit trek.
Day 5: Ras Dashen Summit Trek (4,553m)
Begin before sunrise for the challenging trek to Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest mountain. After navigating rocky terrain and mountain trails, reach the summit for unforgettable views across the Simien range before descending to Mentaber camp.
Day 6: Mentaber to Arekwazeye
Continue trekking beneath the peaks of Kidus Yared and Silki while enjoying spectacular mountain scenery on the route toward Arekwazeye campsite near Mount Berochwuha.
Day 7: Arekwazeye to Sona Village
Climb Mount Berochwuha (4,272m) for one final high-altitude panorama before descending through villages and rural landscapes to the riverside campsite at Sona.
Day 8: Sona to Mekareba through the Lowlands
Descend into the Ansiya River lowlands where riverine forests, rare Cordia africana trees, and colorful birdlife create a completely different landscape from the high mountains above.
Day 9: Mekareba to Mulit Village
Follow the riverbed before climbing steeply toward Hawaza Table Mountain. Pass dramatic rock formations and traditional villages before arriving at Mulit campsite.
Day 10: Mulit to Adi Arkay & End of Trek
Complete the final downhill walk to Adi Arkay, where transportation will be available for your onward journey to Gondar or Axum, concluding your remarkable Simien Mountains expedition.
