Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Gondar to Sankaber Camp
Depart from Gondar to Debark for trekking permits and entry into Simien Mountains National Park. Begin hiking from Buyit Ras with spectacular ridge-top scenery and opportunities to spot Gelada baboons before arriving at Sankaber campsite.
Day 2: Sankaber to Gich Village
Follow the escarpment with breathtaking views of valleys and cliffs far below. Visit the impressive Jinbar Waterfall before continuing to Gich village, where you will camp among Giant Lobelia plants and mountain scenery.
Day 3: Imet Gogo & Saha Gorge Trek
Hike to Imet Gogo for panoramic 360-degree views across the Simien Mountains. Continue to the scenic Saha Gorge before returning to Gich camp after an optional sunset walk to Kedadit viewpoint.
Day 4: Gich to Chennek via Innatye Peak
Enjoy a full-day trek through Giant Heather forests and mountain landscapes to Innatye Peak (4,070m), famous for its dramatic cliff views. Continue to Chennek camp, an excellent location for spotting Walia Ibex and Gelada baboons.
Day 5: Chennek to Sona through Buwahit Pass
Climb to Buwahit Pass (4,200m), one of the best places to search for the rare Ethiopian Wolf. Descend through villages and valleys to Arkwaisye, where you may enjoy a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony before reaching Sona campsite.
Day 6: Sona to Mekareba Valley Trek
Descend into the scenic Incya Valley and relax beside the river before continuing along the riverbanks toward Mekareba campsite surrounded by beautiful lowland scenery.
Day 7: Mekareba to Mulet Village
Continue trekking through river valleys and excellent birdwatching areas. Stop at Derkwenth Pool for a refreshing swim before climbing toward Awazza village and the impressive Table Mountain landscapes on the way to Mulet campsite.
Day 8: Mulet to Adi Arkay & Return to Gondar
Complete your final trek to Adi Arkay, where your vehicle will meet you for the scenic return drive back to Gondar, concluding your Simien Mountains adventure.
